Geography

Today I learned about rivers and their types.

Types of river are:

1/ Upper course or Youthful stage

   > The upper course is the section at the beginning of the river, nearest the source. Rivers usually begin in an upland area, like the top of a mountain. Snow melts or rain falls on high ground and begins to flow downhill. The upper course of a river is usually steep and narrow.

2/ Middle or mature stage

    > The section of the river which comes between the upper and lower course. It is usually wider and deeper than the upper course and the water flows slowly. tributary - A stream or river that flows into another stream or river instead of flowing into the sea.

3/ Lower course

>The lower course is the end of a river. It flows into another body of water. This could be the sea, an ocean, a loch or another river. In the lower course, the river channel. The passage that the river water travels along. is deep and wide and full of lots of water.
